Theme-ix is the code name for any ISOs produced for general distribution by myself (RichJack) as part of this project. They are re-spins offered up as an example of some of the work I have done theming Linux on various base systems.
What Theme-ix is:
- Theme-ix exists to showcase the adaptability and theme-ability of Linux.
- Theme-ix will run in live mode.
- Where possible, Theme-ix will provide a way to install the live system to hard drive.
- Theme-ix will base on the best distro for the job at hand. Currently this is Debian, but this could vary over time.
- Theme-ix will strive to provide credit for any tools that have been included.
What Theme-ix is not:
- Theme-ix is not a 'distro'.
- Theme-ix does not maintain it's own software repositories.
- Theme-ix will not guarantee against system breakage as a result of 'upstream' updates.
- Theme-ix will not provide support for 3rd party or base system components, but will try and provide support for configurations or code introduced as part of the re-spin process.

I just installed this beta3.iso today in a virtual machine, just to test it out. I must say that it is impressive and I really do like the theme!
ReplyDeleteAny plans for a 64bit re-spin?
Thanks very much, I'm glad you like it. Thanks for taking time to comment.
ReplyDeleteI do have a couple of plans in the pipeline, but I think once I have decided on a final and stable application set, a 64 bit spin should be do-able.
I really love this thing, and I have re-spun it a few times to get chrome-dev and accompanying netflix abilities on the iso. The Debian testing is much faster than Peppermint 5 and Lubuntu, and no problem so far using dist-upgrade. I have started liking XFCE again after a long time with LXDE because of your project. I will be watching your Chrome OS project, that is the right idea I think...
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. I hope to get an ISO out for my Chrome project within the next week. I am currently basing on Ubuntu whilst Debian Jessie settles down. I'll probably wait until Jessie is frozen now before basing anything else off it.
ReplyDeleteIf you do test my new spin, I'd be grateful for any feedback.
Kind regards...
hello nice work .!
ReplyDeletefor 60 seconds waiting in boot time , edit:
/etc/init/rc-sysinit.conf and change the line:
start on (filesystem and static-network-up) or failsafe-boot
for:
start on (filesystem) or failsafe-boot
Hi papilyn, thank you for your advice. I have also come across some other suggestions on Google and some possibility that it might be caused by WICD network manager not playing nicely with Ubuntu's resolveconf package. One way or another, I will try and fix it on future releases.
ReplyDeleteChromitium is great
ReplyDeleteBut questions
how can I install to a usb and have it appear to the computer as a SSD
drive ?
Also how to dual boot using manual install ( gparted)?
Thanks
Tom Mooney
Hi Tom
DeleteHave you seen the installation guide - it covers some aspects of Dual Booting?
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VTGhajWypyGTiwCBqB-xZg4hurtRNzSqQzqmMKqtD3k/edit?usp=sharing
But if you give me more information about your setup I can advise further...
I'm not sure that I fully understand your question about installing to USB and have it appear as an SSD. You can perform a full install onto a USB stick using the Manual method, or create a persistent USB install using UNetbootin. Again, if you clarify what you are wanting to achieve, I can provide more advice.
Would you mind following this up at the forums, so that other users may benefit from our discussion?
